Online HDTV reviews

If you're looking for an HDTV set but aren't sure which one to choose consult the HDTV reviews below. We look at CRT, HD-Ready, Plasma, LCD and DLP HDTV options to help you choose.

CRT HDTV - This is basically a tube-based form of HDTV. These sets are larger and bulkier than flat-panel TVs. However according to most HDTV reviews they still offer the best picture. The 34-inch widescreen Sony HDTV has received rave reviews from most people. This television is great if you have the space and don't need a big screen TV. Other reviews back up this impression and agree that this is the best CRT HDTV currently available.

HD-ready CRT - The small 30-inch widescreen Sony TV is similar to the Sony XBR. It has HDMI input (for high-definition components) and reverse 3:2 pull-down which is helpful for good display of film-based material). However this model has no integrated digital tuner so you can't get high-def broadcasting, and there's no dual tuner picture-in-picture. As far as HD-ready TV goes this model is bigger but has received good HDTV reviews all round. It is cheaper than a LCD flat-panel TV of the same size.

Plasma HDTV - The 43-inch Pioneer HDTV has received the best reviews thus far. It is considered the best mainstream plasma screen HDTV on the market. This model features a separate control box which houses the A/V. This means that only one cable goes to the TV. The 1024 by 768-pixel Pioneer plasma TV is great for 720p high-def sports programming. Black-levels are better from a CRT but as far as a plasma TV goes Pioneer has received great HDTV reviews.

LCD HDTV - The LCD flat panel TVs are thin and can be mounted on the wall. However there are different sizes to fit in with your budget. Acording to HDTV reviews Sharp offer great LCD options, which are similar in quality to plasma TV. The 37-inch LC-37GD4U boasts detachable speakers, picture-in-picture, adjustable color temperature and a light sensor.

DLP projection HDTV - The 50-inch Samsung rear-projection TV offers microdisplay. It is 14-inches deep and much thinner than older CRT rear-projection TVs. It is still bigger than a flat-panel plasma screen, though. The Samsung models cost under than half of a 50-inch plasma TV. According to HDTV reviews colors and blacks are realistic and deeper than on many TV models on the market. The Samsung LCD TV features integrated analog and digital tuners. It is also CableCARD compatible.

Ed's View - Hail to the Glitches!

The digital/HDTV transition now in pregress by the television industry is arguably (certainly by that industry) the most complex ever experienced, though likely not since the evolvement of radio communications from Morse coded pulses to commercial broadcast radio. That took about 15 years and with a lot of glitches along the way, But they were overlooked and corrected as the...

A Comparison of Movie Download Services

Over the past two years, we have seen a number of video download services hit the market from major players like Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and Netflix. There have also been some new companies entering this category, such as XStreamHD and VUDU. Some are available only via a software client, meaning a PC (or Mac) would be required to enjoy them, while others work with dedicated hardware connected to your TV. They vary in quality, selection, delivery methods and cost and this article will hit the highlights of what each of the major players are offering their would-be customers in this burgeoning market.

Let's set the stage. This article covers products and services that provide movie downloads via the internet. Specifically...

Blu-ray Wins: A Bittersweet Celebration

I suppose I should be jubilant with Toshiba's announcement saying the end of the high def DVD format war has come. If you have not yet heard, Toshiba has tossed in the towel on their HD DVD format.

Oddly enough, I am not all that thrilled. It's not that I miss the fist pounding, name calling, and back biting from the combatants, for I don't. My sadness, if it is that, is because both contenders were so well suited for the job they were vying for. It is just unfortunate to me that one had to fail in the public eye. It is, after all, a bit of a public humiliation. Neither candidate deserved that fate, but, then again, the consumers didn't deserve an industry knock down, drag out street fight either! Both formats had elegant-enough technology to support their candidacy. In the end, only the belief that...
